What Can Go in a Roofing Dumpster?
Roofing shingles are among the heaviest construction materials to dispose of. Our dumpsters are sized and rated to handle the full range of roofing debris safely and legally.
Rolliskate® driveway protection — used on every drop
iCdumpsters uses Rolliskate, the industry-standard underlayment, to protect pavers, concrete, and asphalt from scratches, oil, and wheel marks — included at no extra cost.

How to Estimate Your Roofing Dumpster Size
Because roofing waste is heavy, it's often smarter to rent a smaller dumpster and schedule a swap-out than to overload a large one. Here's how to estimate what you need:
Measure your roof
The standard unit in roofing is a "roofing square" = 100 sq ft of shingles. Measure your roof in square feet, then divide by 100. If there are multiple shingle layers to remove, multiply by the number of layers.
Calculate material weight
- 3-Tab (standard asphalt)
- ~250 lbs
- Architectural shingles
- ~400 lbs
- Bundle of 3-tab
- ~750 lbs
- Bundle of architectural
- ~1,200 lbs
Match to dumpster size
A 20-yard roll-off dumpster handles 4,000–6,000 lbs — roughly 2,500–3,000 sq ft of single-layer standard shingles. When in doubt, go up a size — you'll always have additional waste beyond shingles.
